Are you looking for the best thrift stores in Asheville, NC? Asheville, North Carolina is located in the western part of the state in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. There are many things to do in the area; gem mining, hiking, white water rafting, and thrift store shopping to name a few. One of my favorite things to do in any area I visit is to go to local shops and immerse myself in the regional culture. Thrift stores are a great way to meet locals and get good deals on things that are relevant to the area. When my husband and I went to Maine we went to a local Goodwill and found some cool souvenirs! You never know what you’ll find.
There are a lot of thrift stores around the country and Asheville, North Carolina is no exception. I love to shop at thrift stores because I like the thrill of the hunt, giving back to the community, and reusing items so they don’t go to a landfill.
There are generally two types of thrift stores; nonprofit and profit. Nonprofit thrift stores are just that, nonprofit, meaning they donate a specific percentage of their sales to a charity. It’s a good idea to research and find out exactly how much money your favorite nonprofit store actually donates to the charity because sometimes it’s not nearly as much as you think it should be. Profit thrift stores are businesses that resell goods for a profit and do not have to donate any money to a charity, although they can if they’d like to and will often post that information in their store and on their website.
In this post I’ll focus on nonprofit thrift stores in Asheville, however, there are a lot of thrift stores in Asheville and the surrounding area that are run for profit too. If you’re interested in the best things to buy at a thrift store check out this post! So without further ado…
